I have come up of a name for our first star system, C'satherin. Our first (And only) planet within the system is named simply Genesis.
From now on, if you create an element it must have a two letter abbreviation to classify it. Do not repeat abbreviations, if I find one repeated it shall be changed. The Latin system will work.

Genesis Gravity [Idea] Empty Genesis Gravity [Idea]

Post by Shaper Tue Sep 29, 2009 12:44 am

For a start, we should create a basic, friendly gravitational field.

    Maybe something like: g = 32.2 ft/s2 (Surface)

Correct me if my math is wrong, but I think that's a pretty medium gravity. If my calculations are right, that is 22 mph of increased velocity for each second of descent.

Well, I was thinking of a lower gravity base. This would make the organisms living on the planet think, and bulky. There will also be a lot of areal-based life.
Or perhaps high gravity, making smaller and thinner creatures. Flying animals would be rare here.

Well, this is a slight variant of Earth's gravity.

It'd help if I new the actual size of Genesis, but (g = 32.2 ft/s2) is definitely enough to sustain any kind of life.

That's the thing, since it's a Genesis planet it doesn't have to sustain that much life.

Wait... a Genesis planet is a type of planet? I'm confused.

And from the looks of the polls, it looks like the population is going to be around 200~300.

Does that mean Genesis will be Mercury-sized?

A Genesis planet is the first planet of our galaxy. Probably.

    Haha.

Population usually means the overall amount of organisms, not the overall amount of species.

Have you ever considered relations to planet mass, (And thus gravity) and to the atmosphere density and thickness? If a planet has more mass, it can hold more atmosphere. This would not always be relevant, as there might not be as much gasses excreted into the atmosphere, but there will be a cap. So, due to this relevance, the gravity will only truly matter to the amount of aeriel life if the atmosphere is thinner than the maximum. Just getting that thought out.

Yes, of course I considered mass.
